Shopping in the High Country
The High Country is a haven for shoppers of all ages, whether you what to stroll through the many art galleries, craft stores and quaint boutiques in own downtowns or shop til you drop at the Tanger Outlet Center Shoppes on the Parkway. There is an abundance of shopping opportunities throughout the many downtown main streets; from downtown West Jefferson to downtown Boone or Blowing Rock.
You can find whatever your heart desires from the modern conveniences to various antiques shops. Downtown Blowing Rock is also known to be the setting for international best-selling author Jan Karon's "Mitford" series. The Mast General Store, which opened its doors in 1883, is one of the oldest general stores in the area. There you can find everything you need and more. The Mast General Store is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
