High Country Birding

hawkforhchHome to over 460 bird species, North Carolina is a great place to go bird watching.  The High Country is no exception: the Spruce-fir forests of our own Grandfather Mountain, considered one of the most endangered ecosystems in the country, harbors one of NC’s few nesting populations of saw whet owls.

Summertime provides a unique opportunity to check out the more than 20 summer bird species that thrive in the High Country.  Prominent bird watching areas include Mount Jefferson State Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Moses Cone Memorial Park and the Linville Gorge among several others.

Visit www.ncbirdingtrail.org for more information on the many bird watching opportunities the High Country has to offer.
