Beech Mountain, North Carolina is a wonderful year-round destination in the High Country. Winter is a great time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. The average yearly snow fall often exceeds 100 inches. Beech Mountain has numerous outdoor activities from skiing to snowboarding and ice skating to Winter guided hikes. The Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce & Beech Mountain’s Park and Recreation Department have filled their calendars with amazing winter events. Here are just a few to get you started:

On Saturday, November 27th from 11:00am – 2:00pm the Beech Mountain Holiday Market will be held. This unique family friendly event will be held at the Buckeye Recreation Center featuring arts & crafts, home-baked treats and much more.

On Saturday, December 18th from 4:00pm – 6:00pm the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce will be trimming and lighting their town Christmas tree. Santa will be there in the gazebo between 4 & 5pm. There will also be cookies and hot chocolate on hand. It will be a wonderful and festive time to bring out the whole family for this magical event.

On Wednesday, December 29th starting at 6:00pm the chamber will be hosting Beech Mountain’s Hayride & Bonfire (weather permitting). You will tour Beech Mountain by starlight and listen to the voices of season carols. You can sip hot chocolate or cider as you warm by the bonfire.

Throughout the winter The Beech Mountain park and recreation department will have winter guided hikes! If you plan to take in these exhilarating trails please remember to wear appropriate clothing and footwear! For more information about these scheduled hiking trails please call 828-387-3003.

Winter sports are all the rage atop Beech Mountain. Ski Beech is one of three premier ski resorts in the area! Ski Beech offers skiing & snowboarding of course plus ice skating and snow tubing. What makes Ski Beech so unique is that the peak elevation sets at 5,506 feet, soaring higher than all others. Ski Beech is set to open for the 2010-2011 ski season November 21st, weather permitting of course. Of course its hard to go skiing or snowboarding with the proper equipment. There are two ski shops on Beech Mountain that offer great deals on rental equipment from skis and boards to winter clothing. Beech Meadows Ski Shop is located just down the road from Ski Beech Mountain Resort. Beech Meadows Ski Shop offers weekday specials and group rates on big name brands such as Spyder, Bonfire, Columbia, Salomon, and many others.
